completed 12 years or more of school education or an equivalent course, at least 18 years old at the time of enrollment, has a clear study purpose and future plan and aims to advance to university or vocational school, has 150 hours or more of Japanese study history (A1 level equivalent; for October and January entrants, A2 level equivalent), has a reliable guarantor/financial supporter, physically and mentally healthy and does not have a chronic illness that may make continuing study abroad difficult, has no tattoos, has been or is expected to be legally permitted to enter Japan, neither the applicant nor family/relatives has a past record of illegal stay in Japan or punishment for crimes, has not come to Japan as a technical intern trainee within the past 2 years
