Hi! I was wondering if anyone knows of any language schools that run 3 week programs (August) . Looking for like morning to/and afternoon classes from Monday-Friday. (While I was searching I noticed a lot of places seem to only have like 3 hour classes in the morning or afternoon which is a bit short?) I'm around intermediate level, and also 17 so I'm looking for schools that accept minors! the only two places that aligned with my schedule were JaLS and Akamonkai but they both only do morning classes and I was hoping for a bit more I'm going to be living and commuting from Saitama Midori ward. I don't need the commute to be super close, but anything more than 1h30 is too much, closer would of course be preferable. This might be a bit of a detailed request but I figured I might ask anyways and see if anyone knows anything! Thank you
Hello everyone, I’m applying for an October 2026 intake at a Japanese language school and I have my interview/test in 5 days. I’m around N5 level and only started learning Japanese a couple of months ago, so I’m honestly really nervous. The school said the interview will be over Zoom and includes: \- listening \- basic conversation \- short writing/dictation They mentioned it will be based on Genki / Minna no Nihongo beginner level. For people who already went through this process: What was the interview actually like? How difficult was it? What kind of questions did they ask? Was the writing part hard? Are they strict with beginners now because of the new immigration requirements? I’m especially worried because October intake timing is tight and I probably don’t have much room for delays or retakes. Any advice or experiences would really help 😅
Hello everyone, I am a SE Asian in my late twenties looking to study in Japan for 1-3 months. I have already shortlisted at least two schools in my list: Meiji or Genki AJCS but have not been able to figure out the pros or cons of attending either school. Has anyone here attended either of these schools briefly and could give me your opinion on what either school is like?
Hey everyone, I am a 26-year-old female from Canada currently mapping out a long-term, 2-year language school stay in Tokyo. I’m already familiar with the basics because I spent 3 months there on a short-term program about three years ago, and I am actually heading back again soon for a one-week trip to keep preparing. Ever since I first came home, I knew I wanted to return long-term. I've spent the last three years saving up, constantly doing my research, and staying up to date on all the requirements. I’ll be going through Go! Go! Nihon again since they were incredibly helpful during my short-term stay and can assist with the visa logistics and documentation. My goal is to aggressively study and practice my spoken Japanese as much as possible before I even get on the plane, and then use the 2-year language school program to completely solidify it so I can eventually secure a part-time job while studying. What I want to know: I am doing my own research on the strict visa mechanics, so I don't need legal advice. Instead, I purely want to hear your personal stories, opinions, and experiences. If you or anyone you know did a long-term language school track to live in Japan permanently: How did you get a part-time job while in language school, and what was the transition like afterward to stay in Japan permanently? What did your process look like when transitioning from school to finding a full-time job? What path did you take after language school? Did you go straight into more schooling (like a local vocational school/college), or did you jump straight into a job search? Knowing what you know now, is it better to go straight into a job search, or does going to a local vocational school/college in Japan after language school have more benefits? Looking back, what do you wish you had done differently? What do you wish you had known before you went, and what did you do that was actually helpful? I’d love to hear your honest reflections and personal journeys so I can learn from what worked for you. Thank you so much!
Hey everyone, I am currently mapping out a full 2-year student visa stay in Tokyo through Go! Go! Nihon. I’ve already been through Go! Go! Nihon before for a short-term 3-month language program a few years ago, so I'm completely familiar with their process and how the basic school structure works. This time, my goal is a true long-term stay. I already know that once I get my student visa and part-time work permit, I am strictly limited to working a maximum of 28 hours per week. While keeping to that limit, my plan is to find an arubaito (part-time job) working on the floor in a conversational, customer-facing grocery store, convenience store, or stationary/art shop environment to practice my Japanese If I love the environment and decide I want to stay in Japan permanently after my 2 years of school are up, my goal is to transition into full-time work in that same store/retail sector. I have absolutely no interest in standard corporate desk jobs or office work. Since standard "clerk" work can be tricky for visa sponsorship after graduation, I want to ask anyone who has successfully used alternative visa routes to stay in the store/retail sector long-term: I want to ask the community: 1. Staying after school: For anyone who started as a language student and wanted to keep working full-time on a store floor or in a grocery environment after graduation, how did you manage to stay? What did your path look like? 2. The Daily Reality: What is the actual reality of working full-time on the floor in Japanese retail as a foreigner? Is it a sustainable path to build a long-term life there? I want your honest opinions and your actual experiences. If you chose this path to avoid the corporate ladder and stay on the store floor, what did you do to make it work? Looking back, what would you do differently? I want the real story of what it's like before I make my final choice. Thank you for your help.
Hey guys, Ive been studying japanese for a year now and my current level in JLPT terms is around N3 (Passed N4), I wanna move to Japan via a language school. My degree in Computer Programming will also complete in a year and I’m planning to apply for the language school around OCT-2027. Then, I’m planning to transit my visa to a work visa as many language schools help find a job. If anyone did the same please share your experience. よろしくお願いします
I’m German, currently in Japan on a whv and I am planning to start studying at a language school later this year (everything is already paid and the COE is in progress). However, my language school insists that I need to apply for the visa back in my home country. I have heard from many sources that this isn’t true and that I can very much change my status of residence in Japan (Germany and a few other counties have this privilege). Now, my language school has claimed that they contacted the local immigration office and they confirmed that a change of status within Japan isn’t possible for me. They also made me fill out a form for the COE where I have to state where \*specifically in my home country\* I’ll apply for the visa. I found that strange so I contacted the immigration office myself, and they said that apparently it depends on the language school but it’s possible. My language school however has never stated that it’s a rule in their school, they just insist it’s not legally possible for me which isn’t true. What should I do? If I have no choice, I’ll go back and apply, but it’s really inconvenient in many different aspects than just financially. Is there really no way I can just do it in Japan just because my language school says so?

I’m thinking about studying in Japan and my current plan is to go to a language school first, then apply for undergrad there. For people who already did this — was language school worth it? Did it actually help you get into university and adjust to life in Japan? I’m also worried about tuition fees. My family and I have enough savings, but I really don’t want to become a burden to my parents financially. How hard is it to get tuition reduction/scholarships after language school? Is it realistic if you have good grades and Japanese level? Would really appreciate honest advice or experiences 🙏
